In that post, he oversees all college operations directly pertaining to academic programming, faculty, and academic administration in a newly imagined position that integrates academic affairs and student affairs. Most recently, Boynton served as chair and professor of philosophy and religious studies at Allegheny College, a liberal arts college in northwestern Pennsylvania, where he also directed the interdisciplinary studies program and the college’s honors program, and chaired the black studies program. Boynton’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in the philosophy of religion from Rice University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands in religion and art history.
